Q: Best cover? What is the best cover of a book that you've read and loved?
A: It took forever to think of one good cover since there are so many! I finally got it narrowed down to two and decided to just share both of them. Enjoy :D
Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Rift by Andrea Cremer
Also, another book that hasn't come out yet but has a absolutely gorgeous cover.
Chronicling the rise of the Keepers, this is the stunning prequel to Andrea Cremer's internationally bestselling Nightshade trilogy!
Sixteen-year-old Ember Morrow is promised to a group called Conatus after one of their healers saves her mother's life. Once she arrives, Ember finds joy in wielding swords, learning magic, and fighting the encroaching darkness loose in the world. She also finds herself falling in love with her mentor, the dashing, brooding, and powerful Barrow Hess. When the knights realize Eira, one of their leaders, is dabbling in dark magic, Ember and Barrow must choose whether to follow Eira into the nether realm or to pledge their lives to destroying her and her kind.
With action, adventure, magic, and tantalizing sensuality, this book is as fast-paced and breathtaking as the Nightshade novels.
My Review:
First things first, that cover! The cover is freaking stunning! At first, I had no idea what the circular object in her hand was, but after about halfway through the novel, it clicked and my curiosity was sated. I first heard of this series when I was browsing through my recommendations. Since I was obsessed over Andrea's Nightshade series, I thought that I might enjoy this as well. When I first picked up this book, I expected it to be about werewolves again, but I was wrong. There were no werewolves whatsoever in this book, but even though there weren't, I still fell in love with it.
This novel takes place in the time of corsets and balls and when people, usually women, were accused of witchcraft. Women were not considered equal to men, and were only expected to marry to rich families so that the father could benefit from it. Sixteen year old Ember Morrow is anything but the submissive woman that her father wants and expects from her. In fact, she's the complete opposite. The worse thing in the world to Ember, is being married off to a rich husband and spending the rest of her days raising children. Ember wants to feel the weight of a sword in her hand and the adrenaline you get in battle. She is strong, quick, intelligent, fierce, and anything I could want from a heroine.
Overall, I loved how this book was written. Andrea Cremer has a way of luring you into the world she creates. The heroine in this novel is very similar to the protagonist in Nightshade. Both heroines have a destiny that neither of them wants, and they fight to change it. Both novels also have tons of action, which I am surprised about because I thought that since these characters aren't werewolves there wouldn't be as much. But I was wrong, because Rift has tons of action scenes, if not more then Nightshade. Rift and Nightshade are completely different series and can be read in whichever order. Anyone who enjoyed reading Nightshade, Wolfsbane, and Bloodrose are sure to love Rift as well.
A thrilling debut story of death, love, destiny and danger
Lenzi hears voices and has visions - gravestones, floods, a boy with steel gray eyes. Her boyfriend, Zak, can't help, and everything keeps getting louder and more intense. Then Lenzi meets Alden, the boy from her dreams, who reveals that she's a reincarnated Speaker - someone who can talk to and help lost souls - and that he has been her Protector for centuries.
Now Lenzi must choose between her life with Zak and the life she is destined to lead with Alden. But time is running out: a malevolent spirit is out to destroy Lenzi, and he will kill her if she doesn't make a decision soon.
My Review:
17 year old Lenzi Anderson isn't your typical teenage girl. Why? Because she can communicate to the Hindered, lost souls who require her services to move onto the afterlife. In the beginning of the novel, Lenzi has no idea who or what she really is and what she's destined to do. She is perfectly human, until her seventeenth birthday that is. That's when the voices start. At first she thinks she's going mad just like her father did, but soon finds out that all of this is normal when she meets her Protector, Alden. Alden explains to her that she has been reincarnated for generations and is famous among their people as the most talented Speaker there is. The problem is, is that instead of getting her memory back bit by bit, she has no memory of her past lives at all.
Let me start off by saying that this is the first ghost/soul based book I've read. I haven't read them before because ghosts and spirits usually creep me out and have a tendency to curve into the horror zone of YA novels. There are many things that I both like and dislike about Lenzi. Dislikes: I can't get to in depth about it without giving away spoilers, but I didn't like how she handled her romantic problems. Likes: Lenzi had a very believable voice. Instead of just believing right away that she was a Speaker and that it was meant to be, she had doubts just like any other person would. She asked the same questions that I would ask if I was put in her position. In fact, the reactions of all the characters were rational and not hastily thrown together in order to let the novel move along faster. Another thing I liked is that she was a fighter. Maybe not in the physical sense that I usually read about but she was a fighter in the mental sense which I appreciated as well.
Lenzi has two love interests and this makes the well known love triangle romance. Zak, her current boyfriend is likeable and sweet in the beggining, but soon turns territorial and possesive as the story progresses. You can tell that Zak really does care for Lenzi, but even though he does, he can't help her with who and what she is like Alden can. Alden is honarable, trustworthy, and always puts Lenzi's needs before his own. They have a unbreakable connection from the time they meet even though Lenzi has no memory of her past lives.
The storyline of Shattered Souls is not one I see alot in YA Paranormal. It was fresh, unusual, and one that I enjoyed alot. There are still some creepy aspects of this book like the exorcisms and possessions, but other then that it was amazing! I will be definitely reading the sequel to this riveting debut! Heroine- 4/5 Romance- 4/5 Action- 4/5 Comedy- 3/5 Overall- 4/5
Vanessa Adler isn't so sure she really belongs at the School of American Ballet.
But dance runs in her family. It's been a part of her life for as long as she
can remember. Her grandmother and mother were prima ballerinas, and her older
sister Margaret was, too. That is, until Margaret mysteriously disappeared from
school three years ago. Vanessa is heir to the family's gift and the only person
who can fulfill her sister's destiny. She has no choice. But she never
could have guessed how dangerous the school is. The infamous choreographer,
Josef, isn't just ruthless with his pupils, he guards a sinister secret, one in
which the school's dancers-prized for their beauty, grace, and discipline-become
pawns in a world of dark, deadly demons.
This is by far the prettiest cover I have seen in months! Even though the summary didn't really jump out at me, the cover alone makes me want to add this to my book collection. From the intricate font to the beautiful model and misty background, this cover is absolute perfection!

Goodreads Summary
Everything Conatus stands for is at risk. Hoping to gather enough resistance to save their order, Ember and Barrow attempt a desperate escape. But fate offers little mercy. When their mission is exposed, the couple face relentless pursuit by the supernatural horrors that act on the commands of Eira’s ally: the mysterious Bosque Mar. A shocking revelation forces Ember out of hiding, sending her back into the heart of dark magic at Tearmunn keep, where she must convince her old friend Alistair of her love or face dire consequences. Ember’s deception offers the only chance for the resistance to succeed, but what she discovers in the shadows beneath the keep will shatter her world and bring about the Witches’ War.
Richly sensual and full of magic, action and danger, Andrea Cremer's fifth book set in the Nightshade world is an edge-of-your-seat page turner.
A thought-provoking and exciting start to a riveting new dystopian
trilogy. As an obedient orphan of the U.N.A. (the super-country that was once Mexico,
the U.S., and Canada), Alenna learned at an early age to blend in and be
quiet—having your parents taken by the police will do that to a girl. But Alenna
can’t help but stand out when she fails a test that all sixteen-year-olds have
to take: The test says she has a high capacity for brutal violence, and so she
is sent to The Wheel, an island where all would-be criminals end up.
The life expectancy of prisoners on The Wheel is just two years, but
with dirty, violent, and chaotic conditions, the time seems a lot longer as
Alenna is forced to deal with civil wars for land ownership and machines that
snatch kids out of their makeshift homes. Desperate, she and the other prisoners
concoct a potentially fatal plan to flee the island. Survival may seem
impossible, but Alenna is determined to achieve it anyway.

In her New York Times bestselling debut, Rachel Hartman introduces mathematical dragons in an alternative-medieval world to fantasy and science-fiction readers of all ages. Eragon-author Christopher Paolini calls them, "Some of the most interesting dragons I've read in fantasy."
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.
Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.

Q. Worst Cover? What is the worst cover of a book that you've read and loved?
